Finn’s taken to playing the “hi” game — we say “hi,” and he follows each time with “hyi” or “hi” or “ai” (all of which is good enough for us!) and the game repeats, endless fun all around. So here’s a “hi” for Grandpa Greg, who’s back now in Boston after a great visit!

See Ahma’s (Grandma Laurie’s) drawing below and Bethany’s after that.

With Grandpa Greg in town we’ve now spent two great days at museums. Finn dozed through some exquisite Indian miniatures and a quick course of Asian art history, waking only for some Japanese bamboo basketry and a few Korean ceramics, at the Asian Art Museum yesterday. And he napped to a show of Charles Sheeler and a host of Oceanic pieces, only to glimpse some African art, at the de Young today. He did catch the stellar view of the city from the observation tower!

Finn got his first glimpse of the ocean on Friday with a stroll along Tennessee Valley’s rocky, green hills to the Pacific. It was brief and wide-eyed, followed by lots of squinting and a good nap to the sound of the waves.

Ahma (Finn’s east coast grandma Laurie) is back in town for a conference — lucky for us! She’s teaching Finn the fun noises to be made by running your finger across your lips and humming, and giving us a refresher course in the Old Steinsieck Shake-’n'-Burp (key: hold him like a wrapped gift you’re trying to identify). She’s also taken Finn on another walk on our favorite trail:
