The little man visited Fairyland (IN OAKLAND!) recently where he rode the merry-go-round, poked his head through cut-outs, saw some animals up close and tapped into the buzz and excitement of all the kids nearby including the big kids, auntie Karen and Finnsdad. Fun-fun.

…ferries, buses, taxis, subways. Finn rode them all on our grand Finn Tour ‘07 which took us up and around the northeast coast for six stops in ten nights. It was a great trip and we loved seeing everyone and having them meet our boy. Finn was a champ through all the changes, greeting so many new faces and places with a smile.
We started Wednesday in New York where we had a great visit with great-aunt Carol, great-uncle Paul and cousin Jenny. Next day we rented a car to drive to Nazareth, Pennsylvania to see where great-grandma Marie and great-grandpa Bob (from whom Finn gets his middle name — and we do call him Finn Bob sometimes) have recently landed. Grandma’s new apartment is lovely, and Grandpa has good folks giving him extra care in the memory unit. We celebrated Grandpa’s 89th birthday then headed back to the city for another night. There Finn made his first visit to Central Park and the Met, and we ate all the good New York food we could find.
Saturday we took the train up to Providence to see Ahma and grandpa Stan and settle for a few nights. Finn got his first dip in the Atlantic and toured College Hill, a bit of Brown and RISD where his grandparents and great-grandfather spent their college years, his uncle Marco is in college now, and his uncle Ben spent his first years.
Tuesday we hit the road again, to Woods Hole for the ferry to Martha’s Vineyard. The sun was shining on the island and we had another swim in the clear, calm water off Oak Bluffs. Grand-peter took us out to dinner with Nana (Finn’s great-grandmother), his great-aunt Julie, great-uncle Tony and cousin Seth.
Wednesday we headed north for our last stop: Boston. Dad/Grandpa Greg and uncle Marco were waiting. We had a walk in the galleries and sculpture garden of the DeCordova after uncle Ben joined us with beautiful Beau later Wednesday night; uncle Tom arrived the next evening in time for a Friday walk in the hot green of the Arnold Arboretum.

At Carol’s apartment Finn discovered the simple pleasures of Tupperwear and wooden spoons.

Finn and his great-grandparents: Finn enjoys his great-grandpa’s face-making.

We got to celebrate great-grandpa Bob’s birthday with a good dinner by great-grandma Marie, while Finn sat in awe of his grandpa Greg’s sculpture!

This was our stroll through Central Park and the Met.

Stan cooked us such good dinners.

The first salt-water swim was at Fogland Point in Rhode Island.

Ahma!

The ferry to the Vineyard.

Thank you, grand-Peter!

Four generations: my aunt Julie, grandmother Janet, me and boy Finn.

The men at the DeCordova: Gregg, Finn, uncle Ben and grandpa Greg.

Yes, this sculpture scared him, too.

Finn couldn’t keep away from the umbrella hole in his grandpa’s backyard table.

Uncle Ben, Uncle Ben!

Tom is Portland’s own Baby Whisperer. What a hold he has!

Noses!

Ben and Tom with Beau!

We all took a lovely, hot and lush-green walk through the Arboretum for our last day of the trip. Tired and ready to be home, but so sad to leave loved ones.

It’s time to go home.
Thank you so much to everyone we saw.
It’s been a while, and a busy while! Saturday Jen and Dennis were married. Congratulations to them, and wishes for a fabulous honeymoon in Ireland! Thanks, too, for making Finn a part of the day (never mind his dad had the honor of marrying the couple); he rode a great red Radio Flyer “Finn” — the letters were added by his Auntie Jen — down the aisle pulled by cousin Joe. It was a great day, and Finn particularly enjoyed the dance floor with his Grandma.

After such a big day we had a quieter Sunday including a visit to Finn’s pal Leah’s house.
